Ricky Gervais drops the Globes

COMEDIAN Ricky Gervais has revealed he will not be hosting the Golden Globes again - although he says his performance at the televised awards ceremony went down well.

The comedian was criticised in the US press for his caustic humour - and for quips about Hollywood stars which Robert Downey jnr remarked were "unusually mean spirited".

Gervais told the gossip website TMZ yesterday: "I am not going to do it again. I think twice is enough."

Phillip Berk, president of the organisers, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, said: "He definitely crossed the line. And some of the things were totally unacceptable.

"But that's Ricky. Any of the references to individuals is certainly not something the Hollywood Foreign Press condones."
