Retirement of council chief

A COUNCIL chief executive dubbed "Mr West Lothian" has retired from the local authority he joined as a schoolboy.

Chief executive Alex Linkston, 60, retired this week, 45 years after joining the local authority.

Mr Linkston was just 16 years old when he started working for West Lothian County Council in 1965 as a Trainee Accountant.

He was recognised with a CBE for his dedication to local government service in 2007.
