Restaurant bid curries favour

A POPULAR curry house has won an eight-year bid to expand.

The Gurkha Nepalese restaurant, on Morningside Road, first applied to expand into a neighbouring shop in late 2001.

The vacant unit had permission for retail use only. The council rejected repeated applications for a change of use into a restaurant on the grounds that it would create four non-retail units in a row.

A recent change in planning regulations removed "protection of shopping uses" regulations, clearing the way for The Gurkha to add another 14 tables.
