Residents to meet again over services

RESIDENTS worried about plans to privatise council services have called another meeting for next week.

The group from Northfield and Willowbrae staged a public meeting at Meadowbank Sports Centre earlier this week to quiz local councillors on the controversial plans affecting a wide range of services from bin collections to personnel.

Fiona Menzies, who chaired the meeting, said those present had expressed dismay at the lack of transparency over the proposals, voiced concerns about the way council services would be removed from democratic control and asked for examples of how privatisation benefited local people.

She said: "We appreciated the presence of Lib Dem councillor Gary Peacock and Cammy Day, Labour councillor for Forth ward."

She said the East Edinburgh Group's next meeting was tomorrow at 7pm at Meadowbank Sports Centre.
