Residents flee city tenements blaze

SIXTEEN people were evacuated from a block of flats in Edinburgh after a fire in the building.

One person was treated for smoke inhalation and a pet cat died in the blaze in the Piershill Square East tenements in the city.

Firefighters were called to the fire shortly before midnight on Saturday.

The blaze was brought under control at around 12.30am, Lothian and Borders fire and rescue said.
