Residents flee city gun battles

PEOPLE deserted a district of Ivory Coast's economic capital, Abidjan, yesterday, a day after gun battles between forces backing the two presidential rivals.

Residents of the northern Abobo district said clashes between forces loyal to incumbent Laurent Gbagbo and those supporting Alassane Ouattara continued through most of Saturday, but had died down yesterday.
