Regiment marks time on Calton Hill

Commanding Officer of 105 Regiment Royal Artillery (Volunteers) Lieutenant Colonel Chris Huthwaite was granted rare permission yesterday to drop the Time Ball at the top of the Nelson Monument on Calton Hill.

For 150 years, the ceremony was performed at 1pm to assist sailors with their timekeeping.

Lieutenant Colonel Huthwaite said: "It is a real honour to drop the Time Ball. The Regiment has a long relationship with the One o'Clock Gun and to be given permission to drop the Time Ball will cement this relationship with the City of Edinburgh."
