Recruitment drive for JPs

NEW Justices of the Peace are being sought to hear criminal cases in Lothian and Borders.

A recruitment process has been launched and the closing date for applications is December 18.

Applicants must live in Lothian and Borders, or within 15 minutes of the area.

A Justice of the Peace is a lay person who hears cases such as thefts, assaults, breach of the peace and road traffic offences in the local courts.

They can impose prison sentences of up to 60 days, order community-based sentences, and issue fines of up to £2500.
