Recovery Centre names room after Tom

AN old soldier who has raised record amounts for charity will today have a room named after him at a centre which cares for wounded sevicemen.

The Armed Forces Personnel Recovery Centre (PRC) at Edinburgh House in Gilmerton is to dedicate the room to 92-year-old veteran Tom Gilzean.

Tom started collecting for charity five years ago and has raised more than £70,000, for which he was given a CBE in the New Year Honours List. Major George Connelly, the officer commanding the PRC, said: “Tom is renowned as a selfless individual who can be seen most days on the Royal Mile and in all kinds of weather, collecting for various local causes including the PRC, to which he has recently presented a cheque for £7000.

“He is one of life’s true gentlemen and his visits to the PRC are always warmly welcomed.”
