Reception marks swimming club's 125th anniversary

MORE than 100 past and present members of a city swimming club are to attend a civic reception in the City Chambers.

The event is being hosted by Lord Provost George Grubb to mark the 125th anniversary of the Heart of Midlothian Amateur Swimming Club on Monday.

Among the recent alumni at the club is Louise Pate, who took part in the Delhi Commonwealth Games.

Councillor Grubb said: "It's a great honour to be hosting this event to commemorate Heart of Midlothian Amateur Swimming Club's 125th anniversary. The club has an exemplary record of coaching generation upon generation of swimmers.

"On behalf of the people of Edinburgh, my congratulations to everyone involved, from the professional head coach and dedicated team of volunteers who run it, to the keen swimmers they coach."

Club president Stephen Osborne said: "It is very encouraging to know that our civic leaders are aware of the activities of the club, and their support is very much appreciated."
