Rebel army attacks on the increase

A UNITED Nations official has said the brutal Lord's Resistance Army rebel group has intensified attacks, killings and kidnappings in Congo's volatile north-east.

UN refugee agency spokeswoman Celine Schmitt said the LRA has killed 35 people, kidnapped 104 and displaced more than 17,000 since January. She counted 52 raids by the group in 2011.
