Readmission rates down

THE number of patients readmitted to hospital within a month of treatment in the Lothians has fallen.

Last year 8.4 per cent of patients had to go back to hospital after 28 days, a drop from the previous year.

The rate of readmission is still above the Scottish average, but experts said this may be to do with the health board taking on trickier procedures.

It means that of the 150,000 admissions in 2010, 12,500 were "readmissions".
