Readers’ donations help offset funding cuts

FOR the past fortnight The Scotsman has highlighted some of the 122 projects which Barnardo’s provides in Scotland.

Scotsman readers have generously donated as a result of our appeal for Barnardo’s, which like many third sector organisations has been affected by cuts to local authority budgets for children’s services.

In order to meet the needs of the most vulnerable children and young people in Scotland it relies on donations.

Our appeal has included details of initiatives which help improve the lives of so many young people. The people who bravely spoke of issues affecting them – including domestic abuse, youth unemployment, fostering and youth offending – took part in the appeal to show how the charity has helped them.

The charity needs £3 million every year to continue its work.

Martin Crew, director of Barnardo’s Scotland said: “I appreciate the many financial demands at this time of year but would encourage Scotsman readers to donate to the appeal.

No matter how small the contribution, it will make a real difference to disadvantaged children and young people in Scotland.”
