RBS chief calls for 'radical thinking' on green energy

THE top economist at the Royal Bank of Scotland has called for "radical thinking" to help fund new greener ways of producing energy.

Speaking ahead of a two-day conference being held in the Capital, Andrew McLaughlin said the public and private sectors had to work together to allow Scotland's renewable energy potential to reach new heights.

The group chief economist at RBS, he said: "Scotland has more potential renewables resources than almost any other European country.

"To achieve this potential, we need to overcome challenges such as the variable nature of wind power generation through a more efficient and integrated European grid to distribute power more effectively."

The Scottish Low Carbon Investment Conference opens in the Capital today at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.
