Rapist jailed for six years

A MAN who raped a teenage runaway after offering her shelter in his filthy home was jailed for six years yesterday.

A judge at the High Court in Edinburgh told Joseph Shaw, 47, that he had taken advantage of a vulnerable girl and the offence had involved a breach of trust.

Lady Stacey also told Shaw that if he had not admitted the offence and spared the 15-year-old from giving evidence the jail term would have been longer.

The court heard that the runaway had been drinking before she arrived in the village of Bragar on the Isle of Lewis.
