A man who raped two pregnant women was yesterday given a ten-year extended sentence.

Colin Mckinnon will serve seven years in prison as the punishment part and, as he is regarded as a serious risk to the public, he will remain on licence for a further three years.

If he commits further offences or breaches any of the supervision conditions imposed he will be recalled to prison to serve the rest of his sentence.

Judge Lord Bannatyne told the 42-year-old yesterday that his name would also remain on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.

Scottish ministers will also be notified of his conviction under laws designed to protect vulnerable groups.

Mackinnon, of Broom Drive, Galashiels, was earlier found guilty at Glasgow High Court of three rapes involving two separate women in Dumfriesshire.

His ten-year long abuse only came to end after one of his victims was brave enough to speak out.

She contacted police who investigated her claims and tracked down other women who made similar sexual allegations against him.

Although Mckinnon denied the catalogue of charges, a jury found him guilty of three counts of rape.
