Rape victims advice for GPs

LOTHIANS GPs have been warned against telling sex assault victims to focus only on the future when trying to overcome their trauma.

GPs are often the main point of contact for someone who has been raped, and health chiefs feel they could play an important role in their recovery.

The guidance reads: "If a patient discloses sexual violence to you, don't brush it aside as if it's unimportant. Don't say 'look forwards, not backwards'."
