Rankin targets new award

REBUS author Ian Rankin has seen his first novel since calling time on his most famous character shortlisted for an award.

Doors Open, originally released in 2008, was Rankin's first stand-alone thriller for more than a decade, after he announced he was to end the long-running Rebus series. The story revolves around two friends, who devise a plan to steal some of the world's most valuable artwork by making it look like no crime has been committed.

Now it has been shortlisted for the Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year Award. Fans of the author can vote online for the winner at www.theakstons.co.uk.
