Following Celtic’s 6-0 win over Livingston last weekend, interim boss John Kennedy stated he felt his side were still the best in Scotland.

“I have full belief in the squad we have here, that on our day we are still the best team in the country,” he said. “One hundred-per-cent.”

Barisic responded in blunt fashion, calling Kennedy’s comments “disrespectful”.

The Croatian international said: “It’s the biggest joke I’ve heard this season.”

“They didn’t win against us in three games and we are twenty points in front of them so it’s a little bit disrespectful to us.

“You always need to be realistic. If someone is twenty points ahead of you, you just don’t talk like that.”

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard concentrated on his own club and the success enjoyed so far this season.

“In football, everyone is entitled to their own view,” he noted.

"I don't focus on anyone outside Rangers. On the 15th May, we will lift our 55th title and I will be the proudest man on the planet.”

Meanwhile, Rangers and Scotland have been dealt a blow with the news Ryan Jack will miss the rest of the season and the European Championship.
