Rangers fans stage protest over how club is being run

RANGERS fans staged a demonstration against Lloyds TSB inside their team's stadium yesterday.

Fans waved banners before and during half time at yesterday's match against Hibernian at Ibrox. The club is around 31million in debt and club supporters are calling for answers from the bank, which is reported to be in control of Rangers.

Last October manager Walter Smith had claimed the bank was running Rangers – although that was later denied by the Ibrox club.

Some supporters have become increasingly unhappy at Rangers' fraught financial position with Donald Muir, the "corporate doctor" brought in at the behest of owner Sir David Murray to nurse the club back to financial health, the focal point of much of their discontent.

Leaflets handed out by fans before the game demanded answers to questions such as: "What are the plans for the club?", and: "Does Lloyds TSB have the best interests of Rangers FC at heart?"

Inside the stadium before kick-off there were several small banners held up by supporters with slogans such as "Donald Muir: The enemy within", "Boycott Lloyds Banking Group" and "Protect our club".

Gordon McPherson, one of the fans involved in the protest, said: "I hope today has raised awareness with the general public so they know that we want answers. It's just the fact that we want to know what is happening with the club."
