Rambler back in prison after clothes snub

THE Naked Rambler is back in Saughton Prison after being found to be in contempt of court for refusing to wear clothes for an appearance in Edinburgh Sheriff Court.

Forty-six-year-old Stephen Gough was due to appear before Sheriff Andrew Lothian for trial but refused to put on any clothes.

The sheriff, Depute Fiscal, Clerk of Court and defence agent, John Good, then went down to the cells. Sheriff Lothian found Gough in contempt and deferred sentence for social work and community service reports until January 9.

Gough, of Chamberlayne Road, Eastleigh, Hampshire, was remanded in custody.

On November 15, Gough was jailed for three months for contempt when he refused to wear clothes for an intermediate trial diet.

He had pleaded not guilty to committing a breach of the peace by being naked in Saughton Prison car park on November 3 and to being in breach of bail conditions that he would not appear in public in Scotland with his private parts exposed.
