Rain hits search for quad biker

THE search for a woman feared to have fallen into a flood-swollen burn was yesterday postponed until water levels drop.

It is thought Linda Weir, 58, may have been swept into the Burnsands Burn as she tried to cross it. The burn is a tributary of the River Nith in Dumfries and Galloway. The search is focused on a part of the burn which flows through remote farmland.

Around 30 rescuers were involved in the search on Tuesday but recovered only the quad bike. The search has now been put on hold until the waters recede.

Police said Mrs Weir would have been using the quad bike for transport rather than leisure.
