Rail link left at platform

PLANS for a major rail interchange on the outskirts of the Capital have been put on hold for up to five years due to uncertainty over the tram project.

Work on the 30 million station at Gogar was due to start between March and April and be completed by September, allowing rail passengers from Glasgow or Fife to transfer on to trams travelling to Edinburgh Airport or into the city centre.

However, the project's promoter, Network Rail, confirmed that it had now been suspended.

A spokesman said: "The integrated nature of the design for this facility means we are waiting for the issues affecting the tram project to be resolved."
