RAF bases decision 'taken'

THE wait for communities in Moray and Fife over the future of RAF bases in Scotland is expected to come to an end next week after Defence Secretary Liam Fox said that he has made the "key decisions" on the base review.

One of the main decisions is over whether to end the RAF's association with Leuchars in north-east Fife or Lossiemouth in Moray and turn the vacant base into an army barracks for troops returning from Germany.

The recommendations now need to be passed by Cabinet and its expenditure committee as well as the National Security Council.
