Racially abusive neighbour avoids jail term

A NEIGHBOUR from hell harassed her Polish neighbours by shouting abuse at them on a daily basis.

Sharron Christie narrowly escaped jail when she appeared for sentence yesterday. She was put on probation for a year with a special condition that she gets counselling about racial issues. She was also sentenced to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work and ordered to do a further 80 hours of community service.

Christie, 37, of Livingston, West Lothian, was earlier found guilty after trial on two counts of repeatedly acting in a racially aggravated manner towards two Polish nationals. She was convicted of shouting, swearing and uttering racist comments at next-door neighbours Monika Charyga and Dariusz Stawiarski in June 2010.

She was also convicted of swearing and making threatening gestures and comments towards Ms Charyga in a separate incident at her home.
