Quilts group donation to war veterans

ONE of Scotland's oldest patchwork and quilting groups has donated a series of quilts to veterans at the Erskine Edinburgh Home, in memory of one of its members.

The Thistle Quilters visited the Gilmerton care home recently, which is run by the veterans charity Erskine, to present the quilts to the ex-servicemen and women in its care.

The donation was made in memory of Edinburgh member Ruth Jellinek, who passed away last year.

Fabric from her personal collection was donated by her family and formed part of the material used to create the wall quilts.

Home manager Lynn Suttie said: "This is an extremely thoughtful donation in memory of Ruth Jellinek. We are delighted to receive these wonderful and creative wall quilts, which will be enjoyed by our veterans for many years to come."

The Thistle Quilters formed in 1981 and boasts 50 members.
