Questions raised over new lifts at station

QUESTIONS have been asked as to why £1.5 million has been spent on new lifts at Haymarket station only for them to be taken out in 2013 when the building is revamped.

Labour MP Thomas Docherty has written to SNP transport minister Keith Brown asking why it has taken three years for the lifts to provide disabled access to be installed and why they are going in just before the station is altered. "It seems to be an appalling example of mismanagement," he said.

But Transport Scotland said the lift installation was brought forward to January 2011 from October and the lifts would be reused in the new station.
