Questions for culture committee

FRESH concerns have been raised about the shortage of meetings of a committee that looks at cultural matters in Edinburgh.

The Evening News reported last month that there are concerns about the a five-and-a-half month break between two meetings of the council's culture and leisure committee.

Councillor Gordon Munro, culture and leisure spokesman for the Labour group, asked culture leader Deidre Brock a series of questions about projects at last week's meeting of the full council.

Cllr Brock said he had "not requested a meeting or picked up a phone" to discuss matters,

Afterwards, Cllr Munro said: "Why bother with a committee if this is how the LibDem/SNP administration want to conduct the affairs of the city - in private and out of the gaze of public scrutiny and accountability. Who is in charge of culture and leisure in this city? Elected members or council officers?"
