Quality drive for recycling

PRESSURE on councils to avoid landfill tax by recycling more has led to a "quantity not quality" approach, it was claimed today.

The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) said there was a risk poorly recycled material such as paper, glass and plastics could end up back in landfill.

Jonathan Davies, ICE's waste and resource management expert, said: "We still need more action to drive up the quality of the material being produced."
