Python musical takes to the Playhouse stage

MONTY Python musical Spamalot is to come to Edinburgh.

The show, which is based on the 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail is due to be staged at the Playhouse from 18-23 October as part of a UK tour.

It tells the legendary tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, with the addition of showgirls, killer rabbits, and the familiar film characters, the French taunter and the Knights who say "Ni".

The musical also pinches musical number Always Look On the Bright Side of Life from another classic Python film, Life of Brian.

The play was written by Eric Idle, who bought the rights from fellow Pythons, and whose recorded voice features in the production as God.

It won the Tony Award for best musical in 2005.

Spamalot, which has already been a hit in the West End and on Broadway, takes its title from a line in the film, "We eat ham and jam and Spam a lot."
