Pupils to enjoy fruits of labour

LEITH Primary pupils Elle Marks, Geordie Shaw and Humna Nisar get a taste of things to come.

They are part of a team of about 60 pupils from Leith Academy and Leith Primary who have joined forces with Lothian and Borders Fire Service and local people to plant more than 100 apple, cherry and pear trees in a new orchard in Leith Links.

The children also planted more than 120 metres of "prickly berry hedge", which grows gooseberries, blackberries and redcurrants, around the unused plot of land.
