Pupils tell of Colombia drug impact

PUPILS from a city high school have given a presentation on their anti-cocaine campaign to members of Scotland's Serious Organised Taskforce.

The youngsters from Portobello High School have been involved in a Colombian government project - Shared Responsibility - which highlights the devastating impact cocaine production has on the country.

The pupils were recently invited to Colombia to see for themselves the effect that cocaine has on communities.

Yesterday, they gave a presentation to the taskforce which brings together key players across Scotland's crime-fighting agencies.

Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill, who chairs the taskforce, said: "Our responsibility is to spearhead the action against serious organised crime in Scotland. But this is not just a job for law enforcement and we are keen to involve people from across Scotland.

"The involvement of the young people from Portobello High is an excellent example of how young people across Scotland can help tackle crime."
