Pupils spin out a tale of town history

PRIMARY pupils in East Lothian are working with a local artist to create an exhibition that explores the area's history of weaving.

The P7 pupils from Yester, St Mary's and King's Meadow primary schools in Haddington will be working with Sarah Wass to discover the traditional culture and history of Scottish weavers.

The youngsters are working with local spinning and weaving experts, ex-mill workers, Haddington Remembered and Peter Pottery Gallery to look at the history of Haddington's West Mill.

The project aims to bring together different generations of the local community and give the pupils an appreciation of the local culture, both past and present, in a live and interactive way.

The outcome of the project will be an exhibition of the pupil's own woven artwork, displayed alongside work that has been created by local community craft groups.

The exhibition will be at Peter Potter Gallery, The Sands, Haddington from 8-29 May.
