Pupils join campaign to end violence against women

PUPILS from three West Lothian secondary schools took part in a special event to mark International Day Against Violence Against Women and the launch of a 16-day campaign in the area.

Children from Whitburn, Broxburn and Linlithgow academies came together for the event at Howden Park Centre recently.

The action is an international campaign ending on December 10, which is also International Human Rights Day.

The dates were chosen to emphasise that violence against women is a violation of human rights.

Pupils and teachers from the schools have been working on a project called Art for Equality, which included poetry, photography, posters, music, drawings, drama and sculpture.

The aim of the project was to raise awareness among youngsters about violence against women as a human rights issue, and gender equality.
