Pupils compete to name new care home

SCHOOL children are being asked to pick potential names for Edinburgh's latest state-of-the-art care home.

The 8 million residence, being built on the site of the former Kings Inch Special School, is due to officially open next year.

Pupils from Liberton Primary, which is next door to the new home, have been asked to come up with potential names.

Residents and staff from the two current council care homes, Balmwell House and Craigour, will be moving in to the new building in the spring.

Voting slips will then be issued to both residents and staff, with the most popular name the winner.

Graham Construction, which is building the home, has donated 100 worth of book tokens to the school.

Headteacher Anne Clark said: "The children are really looking forward to doing all the research for new names. It's a great way for them to find out more about the local heritage and history of the area."

The city's health and social care leader, Paul Edie, said: "I'm sure the pupils will benefit greatly from all the research they will be carrying out.

"This new home will give residents the opportunity to stay in accommodation which is more suitable to their needs."
