Pupils are top brass

A CLUTCH of West Lothian school pupils will compete in a contest involving the country's best brass musicians.

Three members of the Whitburn Youth Band in West Lothian will take part in the final of the Scottish Brass Band Solo Championships next weekend.

Another two performers with the group came close to qualifying, in what is another major feat for the organisation.

Youngsters Cameron McMahon, Rachel Neil and Susannah Downs will all travel the short distance to the event at the Howden Park Centre in Livingston on February 5.

The Evening News reported last year how the band recently secured sponsorship.
