Pupil injured by car strike

A PRIMARY school pupil had to be rushed to hospital yesterday after being hit by a car on his way home from school.

He is thought to have suffered head injuries and a broken leg after being struck by a red Nissan Micra as he ran across the city's busy Gorgie Road at around 3.45pm.

The child was said to be in a stable condition at the Sick Kids hospital after the incident.

The incident happened as children gathered around a shop on their way home from school.

A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Police said that they were not treating the incident as a hit and run.
