Pubs on alert as protesters head for city

EXTRA door staff were set to be deployed at city centre pubs today amid concerns over the possible arrival of right-wing protesters to demonstrate in the Capital.

Police have visited landlords and advised them to boost security if they were worried over the planned Scottish Defence League event.

The SDL – who were believed to be planning a protest in the city – are known to frequent pubs before and after demonstrations.

Meanwhile, hundreds of officers were expected to be on duty to police today's march by the Scotland Against Racism and Fascism and any SDL gathering.

Dozens of officers were set to police the march by the anti-fascist umbrella group, with many more ready to be called up from reserves if trouble broke out.
