Pub pulls in punters' prize

CUSTOMERS have helped their local win the "best gastropub in Scotland" title at a prestigious awards ceremony.

The Mercat Bar & Restaurant, at Haymarket, was also named the second most popular in the UK for its food, ambience and service.

The marketing business, TheBestOf, received more than 30,000 nominations in its nationwide search. The Mercat won 526 recommendations from drinkers and diners.

Owner Graham Blaikie said it was "fantastic news". He said: "Winning this is testimony to the hard work we've put in."

Restaurant Scotland
