Carrolls Gastro Pub in Lucan, Dublin, took a photo of the wedding band and posted it on their Facebook page, with the caption: “Wedding ring found with inscription... any ladies out there with a husband without his ring gets a free Sunday brunch and a stick to beat him’.

Jocular comments from the pub’s Facebook fans ranged from ‘Someone’s in trouble’ to those who were aware of several people missing wedding rings with inscriptions.

Luckily, the owner of the ring was tracked down and the ring returned.

The pub issued an update on Facebook declining to identify the man concerned but added: “Owner has being identified….ring returned….stick given…condition unknown….wife enjoys brunch….#doghouse.”
