Pub faces licence rap after ‘bottle fight’

A PUB could have its licence suspended for the second time after an alleged serious assault at the venue.

Police were called to the Spey Lounge, Leith Walk, on Christmas Eve last year, where they found a victim with head injuries.

It is understood the victim had been hit over the head with a bottle and required hospital treatment. No arrests have been made, but police are investigating and have referred the pub to the council’s licensing board.

The Spey Lounge’s serving licence was suspended for a month in June last year following a similar referral.

During a meeting last week, the council’s licensing board ruled that it would postpone the review until it had viewed CCTV footage.

Bar bosses admitted there was a disturbance, but insisted senior staff had acted responsibly.

Leith Councillor Chas Booth said: “It’s essential we try and get to the truth of this. The police are saying there was a serious assault on the premises.”
