£9m spent on road repairs

AT LEAST £9 million was spent repairing potholes and patching up roads in the Lothians following last winter's big freeze.

Midlothian Council took the lion's share of the work, carrying out 3.74m worth of repairs.

Meanwhile, the winter maintenance bill in East Lothian almost tripled to 2.2m last year, with 650 potholes repaired.

Edinburgh City Council has permanently repaired 34,503 potholes since November, with a further 26,567 temporarily patched up as part of an emergency winter spend of 3.1m.
