£700,000 grant for heart drug research

Researchers at a Scottish university are to play a key role in a major European-wide project to develop tailored therapies for patients who have suffered from heart failure.

The research team at Dundee University, led by Chim Lang, a Professor of Cardiology, has been awarded a 700,000 grant as part of the 10 million study being funded by the European Commission.

As part of the study researchers will work with patients, hospital physicians and GPs across Tayside to investigate how an individual's genetic make-up influences their response to heart failure medication.

Prof Lang explained: "Despite significant advances, patients can still often have a poor quality of life with symptoms of shortness of breath and lethargy."
