It will be spent replacing worn-out stretches of some 
motorways and major A roads.

A total of 30 kilometres will be resurfaced, with part of the M8 motorway between Glasgow and Edinburgh included.

The Scottish Government has pledged to start a “building boom” with the extra money made available as a result of the Chancellor’s autumn statement. Some £205m is being invested in “shovel-ready” schemes.

In the north-east, work will be carried out on the A90, M90 and A96, and in the north-west, on the A82/83 and A9 near Pitlochry. Work in the south-east will see improvements to the M8, M9, M80 and A702, while in the south-west, parts of the A75, A76, A77, M8 around Glasgow and M80 near Glasgow will be resurfaced.

All the work is scheduled to be carried out early in the new year.

Transport minister Keith Brown said: “Our strategic road network plays a vitally important role in supporting our key economic drivers – tourism, food and drink, and the renewables industry.”
