£500k drugs found after ‘road trip’

A MAN claimed he had been on a “wee road trip” after being caught with a £500,000 drug haul.

Steven Gibb, 20, and friend John Gorrian, 49, were found with cannabis and amphetamine after police swooped in May last year.

The pair had picked up the consignment next to the ground of English football club Coventry City before being arrested on their return to
Scotland.

Gibb later denied to police he had been drug trafficking – instead claiming he had joined Gorrian, of Linlithgow, West Lothian, on the trip in case he got “bored”.

The duo yesterday admitted being concerned in the supply of the Class B drugs when they appeared at the High Court in Glasgow. They both face jail when sentenced next month.

The court heard how Gorrian picked up a hired car in Bathgate, West Lothian, last May 4 and headed south with Gibb, of Falkirk. Police tailed the vehicle to a car park at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena stadium.

The pair then drove back to Scotland, where they were stopped at Harthill Services on the M8 later that evening.

The drugs were discovered in the car. The cannabis had a potential value of £285,700, while the amphetamine could sell for £189,980.
