£350,000 armed raid terror for jeweller, 68

Armed robbers stole hundreds of thousands of pounds of jewellery from an elderly man during an attack in broad daylight.

The 68-year-old was said to have been left badly shaken after the "disgraceful" assault in the Port Dundas area of Glasgow.

It is understood about 350,000 worth of goods was stolen.

The victim, who is believed to be a jeweller, was driving along Borron Street at about 4pm on Wednesday when he pulled over to make a phone call.

Strathclyde Police said two men, who were armed with blunt weapons and were possibly wearing balaclavas, dragged him out of his car before assaulting him.

They robbed him of a case containing the jewellery and fled towards Speirs Wharf in a dark green car, which may have been a Rover 4 series.

Officers said the man suffered minor injuries, but had been left "traumatised and badly shaken" by the robbery.

Police said they are carrying out extensive inquiries and are currently studying CCTV footage in the hope of tracking down the robbers.

No descriptions of the suspects are available at this stage, but police believe that there were either three or four men involved.

Detective Sergeant John Semple, of Maryhill police office, urged anyone with information to come forward.

He said: "This was a disgraceful robbery on a defenceless elderly gentleman in broad daylight, and I am determined to track down the individuals responsible for this robbery.

"Borron Street is close to industrial units, and I am sure that members of public would have witnessed this robbery.

"I would appeal to anyone who was in the Borron Street area yesterday around 4pm, or anyone who has any information about the robbery, to contact me."
