£1.5m paid out by NHS Lothian for negligence

NEARLY £1.5 million was paid out because of clinical negligence last year by NHS Lothian.

New figures show 27 cases were resolved in that time. It is a rise from last year's total but nowhere near the 7m paid out in 2007.

It is understood that although the number of cases has dropped, the value of each claim has risen.

The statistics show NHS Lothian has the sixth highest compensation bill in Scotland.
