£1.2m revamp plan's right up historic town's street

DALKEITH High Street is set to benefit from a £1.2 million project to make improvements in the historic town centre.

As part of the environmental improvements project a pedestrian crossing will be added, while pavements will be extended to aid wheelchair users and people with pushchairs and traffic calming measures will be introduced.

The project, which begins in the autumn and will run until early 2011, will see the High Street closed to traffic. Councillor Russell Imrie, Midlothian Council cabinet spokesperson, said: "It will be exciting to see the first steps of the environmental improvements in Dalkeith taking shape in autumn 2010."
