£10,000 is ace for wheelchair tennis group

A LOCAL wheelchair tennis club has been given a huge boost, after receiving over £10,000 of Lottery and Comic Relief funding.

The wheelchair tennis club, based at Craiglockhart Tennis Centre in Edinburgh, has said the money will allow it to extend its activities.

It received two grants from the Lottery Fund and Comic Relief for 9,680 and 1,500 respectively. The club, Winning Wheels, which has been going almost four years now, is always looking for new members. Both adults and children who have never played tennis are particularly welcome.

The Comic Relief funding will be used for weekly coaching sessions and the "Awards for All" lottery grant is to provide financial support for members to attend tennis camps and tournaments in the rest of the UK.

Two members are already playing regularly at national tournaments and it is hoped that more can follow their lead.
