£1,000 gold coins to mark Olympics

Peers have approved plans to allow the Royal Mint to produce 1kg (2.2lbs) gold and silver coins to commemorate the London Olympics.

The gold coins are valued at 1,000, with the silver ones worth 500, and are expected to become collectors' items.
